One such opportunity that was explicitly Jewish was the business of the Temple. The Temple, more than just a religious site, was the philosophical and religious center of Judaism. Here the celebration of the religion provided interaction for all Jews and even gentiles. Economically all Jews were to provide payment of taxes to the Temple, the so called Temple tax. This tax provided upkeep for the Temple.

Herod made his way to Rome where he met Antony, one of Caesar’s lieutenants, who was currently ruling with Octavian (the future Augustus), Caesar’s adopted son. Antony convinced the Roman Senate to make a treaty with Herod recognizing him as king of Judea.
